About
What’s this ‘beyond snapshots’ thing about you ask?
Got yourself a fancy camera, but sometimes feel like you actually bought a REALLY expensive point and shoot because you just use it on auto?
Rachel gets so many emails and comments asking how she takes such great photos of her own kids on a consistent basis and Peta gets asked all the time how she gets such amazing colors and light in every shot. We both get asked how we connect with children and come up with our ideas. We are not magicians and we don’t have tricks up our sleeves that regular people can’t do on their own. We want to show people what we do in a way that will prove they can do it themselves. Rachel shoots Nikon and Peta shoots Canon. Rachel is on PC and Peta is Mac. Rachel has what on some days feels like 29 children and Peta has none. Rachel has been shooting for years (and years and years) and Peta is newer to the scene . We believe our differences are what make us work so well as a team, but the one thing that is most important here we have in common, we love what we do. We are ready to answer the one question we both get asked most often, ”How do I go beyond snapshots and take my camera off auto?” Since we are both self taught, we have gone through the often disappointing and occasionally humorous learning process of trial and error. We feel like we can save a lot of people the same trip or at least shorten the trip and make it a bit more beautiful.

What a beautifully crafted site! Great tips and phenomenal and inspiring pics. Thanks.
I live in Huntington Beach, California U.S.A. and came across your website yesterday while searching for advise on what Nikon or Canon SLR camera to purchase to take better pictures of my 5 year old twins in action and where to go to learn how to take great pictures. Then, last night I’m watching HGTV and see Rachel on House Hunters International! That was you moving from Los Angeles to Melbourne, right? My relatively new Canon Power Shot SD8990 is not doing the trick but I’m terrified of stepping up as I have very little knowledge of how to use 90% of the features on this basic/easy camera! I’m so excited to follow your blog and learn from both of you! Now I’d better hurry up and figure out what camera to purchase. Thanks! Sandra
yep, that was me! we are working on a “what camera” post…
i love the site
can’t wait to read your “what camera” post…
WOW!This is honestly the most helpful website I have found! I commented on Rachel’s blog for some advice for first-time photographers, but then I found this site you two put together! Thanks so much!
Also really excited for the book. Can’t wait till it comes out!
Thanks again, Rachel and Peta!
I love when anyone contributes to taking the camera off of auto! Great job;)
